“Stylish, incisive, thrilling playing… I was on the edge of my seat throughout.” – Fanfare ★★★★★

"Graf lends the central love music section of Don Juan great lyricism and sensuousness and there are power and drive a-plenty in the swashbuckling passages... an excellent conductor galvanising a fine orchestra." - MusicWeb International

“Among the best Don Juans and Ein Heldenlebens on the market.” – Fanfare ★★★★★

"Es ist eine starke, packende Interpretation, prächtig gespielt vom Orchester aus Singapur." - Pizzicato

“I don’t know that I have ever heard a better recorded version of these works. OUR Recordings [and msm-productions Singapore] have provided spectacular sonics from the Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore, immersive, colorful, resonant.” – Fanfare ★★★★★

“Very solid, careful, cultivated interpretations… a rounded achievement with many well-judged details” – Klassik Heute, 9/10

“The album enters a very crowded field—there are literally hundreds of recordings of both tone poems available… but I am happy to report that the current album firmly belongs to the top tier. Graf demonstrates a keen ability to pay close attention to details while not losing sight of the overall narrative, and the orchestra plays splendidly."

Strauss’s Don Juan, Op. 20 (1888), was inspired by Nikolaus Lenau’s poetic take on the Don Juan legend, portraying him as a man seeking the perfect woman and ultimately succumbing to despair. Strauss’s orchestral work mirrors this, opening with energetic themes of Don Juan’s adventures, featuring lyrical passages for his loves, and concluding with dark chords symbolizing his demise.

In 1898, Strauss composed Ein Heldenleben (A Hero’s Life), a six-section tone poem inspired by Beethoven’s Eroica, reflecting his own life and career. Themes depict the hero, his adversaries, companion, battles, peace, and eventual retirement. Critics debated Strauss’s self-portrait as arrogant or humorous, but the work remains a testament to artistic struggle and triumph.
